Overview

Dust programmes assembled from individual equipment purchases tend to fail audit. This paper covers building a source-by-source strategy where suppression, chemistry and monitoring are specified together.

The challenge

Fugitive dust is generated at transfer points, stockyards, haul roads and site exits, each with a different mechanism and a different effective control. Buying a mist cannon does not address carry-out at the gate, and neither addresses the exposed slope that reactivates with every dry wind.

The solution

The paper maps common emission sources to the appropriate control: dust catchers at source, long-throw atomised suppression for stockyards and crushers, wheel washers at exits, and hydroseeding for exposed slopes. It then sets out water consumption, monitoring placement and the record-keeping that makes a programme defensible.

Results

The result is a documented, source-by-source control plan with monitoring evidence attached, structured to hold up to regulatory scrutiny and community complaint alike.
