Overview

Most lubrication programmes sit at stage two and are reported as though they were at stage five. This framework defines each stage by what is measurable, and names the failure modes that only disappear once you reach the next one.

The challenge

Lubrication is the cheapest reliability intervention available and the least consistently executed. Where routes are undocumented, compliance is unmeasurable, so bearing failures get attributed to product quality or duty rather than to a missed lube point nobody can prove was missed.

The solution

The paper defines five maturity stages (reactive, scheduled, charted, routed and measured) with entry criteria, tooling requirements and the specific failure modes each stage eliminates. It covers charting methodology, product consolidation and cross-referencing, route construction and the practicalities of offline field capture.

Results

Documented case data shows charting time reductions of up to 86%, 25 to 80 hours of report preparation eliminated per cycle, and facilities reaching 100% route compliance with near-elimination of bearing failures.
